Aciachne
HABIT Perennial. Culms 1–2–3 cm long. Lateral branches ample (2/2). Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blades aciculate; stiff. Leaf-blade apex pungent.
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence comprising only a few spikelets.
Spikelets solitary.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; subterete; 2.49–3.881–4.6 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus glabrous (2/2); truncate.
GLUMES Glumes persistent; shorter than spikelet. Lower glume oblong (1), or ovate (2); 1 length of upper glume; coriaceous; without keels; 3–5 -veined. Lower glume surface without pits. Lower glume apex obtuse. Upper glume oblong (1), or ovate (2); 0.5 length of adjacent fertile lemma; coriaceous; without keels; 3–5 -veined. Upper glume apex obtuse.
FLORETS Fertile lemma oblong; subterete; lanceolate in profile; coriaceous; without keel; wingless; 3 -veined. Lemma surface unwrinkled; without grooves. Lemma margins convolute; covering most of palea. Lemma apex rostrate. Palea coriaceous; 2 -veined; without keels.
FLOWER Lodicules 3; membranous. Anthers 3. Stigmas 2 (2/2).
FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp (2/2). Hilum punctiform (2/2).
DISTRIBUTION South America.
