Lateral branches ample (3/3). Ligule an eciliate membrane (14), or a ciliolate membrane (2). Leaf-blades linear, or lanceolate (7); firm (13), or flaccid (3). Leaf-blade midrib conspicuous (2/2). Leaf-blade margins cartilaginous (1/1).
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence composed of racemes; subtended by an unspecialized leaf-sheath (13), or an inflated leaf-sheath (2), or a spatheole (1); exserted (15), or enclosed (1).
Racemes single (1), or paired (15), or digitate (3); erect (5), or ascending (13). Rhachis fragile at the nodes; subterete (14/14). Rhachis internodes linear (14), or clavate (1), or cuneate (1).
Spikelets appressed (15/15); in pairs. Fertile spikelets sessile; 1 in the cluster. Companion sterile spikelets pedicelled; 1 in the cluster. Pedicels adnate at the base to lower glume of sessile spikelet; linear.
STERILE SPIKELETS Basal sterile spikelets absent (11), or well-developed (5).
Companion sterile spikelets represented by barren pedicels (14), or rudimentary (1), or well-developed (2). Companion sterile spikelet glumes muticous (1/1).
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets; 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets oblong (14), or obovate (4), or cuneate (1); dorsally compressed; 3–5.209–9.6 mm long; falling entire; deciduous with accessory branch structures. Spikelet callus bearded (5/5); base obtuse; attached transversely.
GLUMES Glumes reaching apex of florets (13), or exceeding apex of florets (3); firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate (1), or elliptic (1), or oblong (10), or obovate (6), or cuneate (2); membranous (1), or chartaceous (6), or coriaceous (10); without keels; 5 -veined (1/13), or 7 -veined (11/13), or 9–13 -veined (1/13). Lower glume lateral veins obscure (1), or distinct (15); without ribs (15), or ribbed (1). Lower glume surface convex (15), or flat (1); smooth (13), or asperulous (2), or scabrous (1); without pits; glabrous (12), or pilose (6), or hispid (2). Lower glume apex entire (8), or erose (7), or dentate (1); 3–5 -fid (1/1); emarginate (4), or truncate (13), or obtuse (1); muticous (15), or mucronate (1). Upper glume lanceolate (1/15), or oblong (14/15); membranous (1), or chartaceous (15); with undifferentiated margins (13), or hyaline margins (3); 3 -veined (11/11). Upper glume surface smooth (14), or scabrous (2); glabrous (12), or pubescent (1), or pilose (3). Upper glume apex entire (14), or erose (2); truncate (11/12), or acuminate (1/12).
FLORETS Basal sterile florets male, or barren (3); with palea.
