Spikelets lanceolate (2), or elliptic (1), or cuneate (3); laterally compressed; 6–10.3–15 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Rhachilla internodes definite. Floret callus evident; pilose (2), or bearded (3).
GLUMES Glumes persistent; shorter than spikelet (2), or reaching apex of florets (3). Lower glume lanceolate; 1 length of upper glume; membranous; 1-keeled; 3 -veined, or 4–5 -veined (3). Lower glume surface without pits; glabrous (4), or pilose (1). Lower glume apex acute (3), or acuminate (2). Upper glume lanceolate; 1–1.15–1.25 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; 1-keeled; 3–5 -veined. Upper glume surface glabrous (4), or pilose (1). Upper glume apex acute (3), or acuminate (2).
FLORETS Fertile lemma lanceolate; membranous; without keel; wingless; 5 -veined, or 6–7 -veined (4), or 8–9 -veined (3). Lemma surface unwrinkled; without grooves; glabrous (1), or villous (4). Lemma apex entire (3), or dentate (2); 2 -fid (2/2); acute (3/3), or acuminate (3/3); muticous (3), or mucronate (3), or awned (2); 1 -awned (2/2). Principal lemma awn apical (3), or from a sinus (2). Palea 0.5–0.62–0.8 length of lemma; 2 -veined. Palea keels eciliate (2), or ciliolate (3).
FLOWER Lodicules 2. Anthers 3. Ovary glabrous.
