Holttumochloa
HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms 300–400–500 cm long; woody; without nodal roots. Culm-internodes terete. Lateral branches dendroid. Branch complement many; in a clump (1/1); with subequal branches (1/1). Culm-sheaths auriculate (1/1). Culm-sheath blade lanceolate (1/1). Leaf-sheath auricles absent (2), or falcate (1). Ligule an eciliate membrane (1), or a ciliolate membrane (2). Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate.
INFLORESCENCE Synflorescence bractiferous (2/2); linear (1/2), or clustered at the nodes (1/2); in untidy tufts (1/1); with glumaceous subtending bracts (2/2), or foliaceous subtending bracts (1/2); with axillary buds at base of spikelet (2/2).
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 2–4 fertile florets (1/2); with diminished florets at the apex (2/2). Spikelets lanceolate (2/2); laterally compressed (2/2); 10–16.75–25 mm long; breaking up at maturity (2/2); disarticulating below each fertile floret (2/2). Rhachilla internodes definite (2/2); glabrous (1/2), or pubescent (1/2).
GLUMES Glumes several (2/2). Lower glume surface without pits (2/2).
FLORETS Fertile lemma lanceolate (1/2), or ovate (1/2); without keel (2/2); wingless (2/2). Lemma surface unwrinkled (2/2); without grooves (2/2). Lemma margins ciliolate (2/2). Lemma apex acute (1/2), or apiculate (1/2). Palea 10 -veined (1/1). Palea keels eciliate (1/2), or ciliolate (1/2). Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped (2/2).
FLOWER Lodicules 3 (2/2); membranous (1/1); glabrous (1/2), or ciliate (1/2). Anthers 6 (2/2). Stigmas 3 (1/1). Ovary umbonate (2/2); pubescent on apex (1/1).
DISTRIBUTION Tropical Asia.
