Ottochloa
HABIT Perennial. Culms geniculately ascending (1), or decumbent (1), or rambling (1); slender (1/1); 5–67.5–200 cm long; spongy (1), or firm (2); rooting from lower nodes. Lateral branches ample (1/1). Ligule an eciliate membrane (2), or a ciliolate membrane (1). Leaf-blades persistent (2), or deciduous at the ligule (1); linear (1), or lanceolate. Leaf-blade venation without cross veins (2), or with obscure cross veins (1).
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence composed of racemes.
Racemes borne along a central axis; unilateral; bearing 4–6 fertile spikelets on each (1/1). Rhachis angular. Spikelet packing abaxial (1/1).
Spikelets solitary, or in pairs (1). Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels tip cupuliform (1/1).
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets; 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate (1), or oblong (2); dorsally compressed; 1.75–3.738–7.2 mm long; falling entire.
GLUMES Glumes shorter than spikelet; thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume ovate; 0.4–0.725–1 length of upper glume; membranous; without keels; 3 -veined. Lower glume surface without pits. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate (1), or ovate (2); 0.3–0.35–0.4 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; with undifferentiated margins (2), or hyaline margins (1); without keels; 5 -veined. Upper glume apex acute.
FLORETS Basal sterile florets barren; without significant palea. Lemma of lower sterile floret lanceolate (1), or ovate (2); membranous; 5 -veined (1), or 7 -veined (2); obtuse (1), or acute (2). Fertile lemma elliptic (2), or ovate (1); chartaceous (1), or coriaceous (2); of similar consistency on margins (2), or much thinner on margins (1); without keel; wingless; 3 -veined (1), or 5 -veined (2). Lemma lateral veins obscure (1/1). Lemma surface smooth (2), or granulose (1); unwrinkled; without grooves. Lemma margins involute; eciliate (2), or ciliolate (1). Lemma apex acute. Palea not rolled (1), or involute (2); 1 length of lemma; chartaceous (1), or coriaceous (2); 2 -veined.
FLOWER Anthers 3 (1/1).
DISTRIBUTION Africa (1), or Temperate Asia (1), or Tropical Asia (2), or Australasia (2).
