INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle contracted.

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels filiform.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 2 fertile florets (1), or 3–6 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets lanceolate, or oblong; laterally compressed; 15–20.25–30 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Rhachilla internodes definite. Floret callus elongated; pubescent; pungent.

GLUMES Glumes persistent; shorter than spikelet; thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume linear (1), or lanceolate (1); 0.6–0.725–0.8 length of upper glume; membranous; without keels; 3 -veined. Lower glume surface without pits. Lower glume apex acute (1), or acuminate (1). Upper glume linear (1), or lanceolate (1); 0.8–1.05–1.2 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; without keels; 5 -veined. Upper glume apex acute (1), or acuminate (1).

FLORETS Fertile lemma lanceolate, or oblong (1); chartaceous; without keel; wingless; 7 -veined, or 8–9 -veined (1). Lemma lateral veins prominent (1/1). Lemma surface unwrinkled; without grooves. Lemma apex entire (1), or dentate; 2 -fid; awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn dorsal; coiled. Palea surface glabrous (1), or pubescent (1). Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped (1), or distinct from fertile (1); 1–2 in number (1/1); in a clump (1/1); linear (1/1). Apical sterile lemmas awned (1/1).

FLOWER Lodicules 2; fleshy; truncate. Anthers 3. Stigmas 2 (1/1). Ovary glabrous.

FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp; linear (1/1), or oblong (1/1). Embryo 0.1 length of caryopsis. Hilum punctiform (1/1).
