Agrostis hugoniana
HABIT Perennial; caespitose. Rhizomes elongated. Butt sheaths persistent and investing base of culm; with compacted dead sheaths. Culms 7–12 cm long; 2 -noded. Culm-internodes elliptical in section. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 1.5–2 mm long; truncate, or obtuse. Leaf-blades 5–12 cm long; 2–3 mm wide.
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.
Panicle open; linear, or oblong; dense; 3–7 cm long; 1.2 cm wide. Primary panicle branches appressed; 3 -nate.
Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets elliptic; laterally compressed; 3.5 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus pubescent. Floret callus hairs 0.5 mm long.
GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; exceeding apex of florets; firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate; 1 length of upper glume; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume primary vein scabrous. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate; 3.5 mm long; 1.1–1.2 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Upper glume primary vein scabrous. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume apex acute.
FLORETS Fertile lemma elliptic; 3 mm long; cartilaginous; without keel; 5 -veined. Lemma lateral veins obscure. Lemma apex muticous. Palea 0.5 mm long; 0.25–0.33 length of lemma; hyaline.
FLOWER Lodicules 2; membranous. Anthers 3; 1 mm long.
FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp. Hilum linear.
DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: China.
