Agrostis inaequiglumis

HABIT Annual; caespitose; clumped densely. Culms erect; 4–5 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 1 mm long; erose. Leaf-blades convolute; 2–3 cm long; 1–2 mm wide.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle contracted; linear; 2.5–4 cm long. Primary panicle branches not whorled, or whorled at most nodes. Panicle branches capillary; smooth.

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels filiform; 1–1.5 mm long; smooth.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; with a barren rhachilla extension. Spikelets elliptic; laterally compressed; 2–5 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Spikelet callus glabrous.

GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; exceeding apex of florets; firmer than fertile lemma; shiny; gaping. Lower glume lanceolate; 2 mm long; 0.75 length of upper glume; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume primary vein scaberulous. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate; 2.5 mm long; 1.7 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; 1-keeled; 1(–3) -veined. Upper glume primary vein scaberulous. Upper glume lateral veins absent, or obscure. Upper glume apex acute.

FLORETS Fertile lemma oblong; 1.5 mm long; hyaline; without keel; 5 -veined. Lemma apex muticous. Palea absent or minute. Rhachilla extension glabrous.

FLOWER Lodicules 2; membranous. Anthers 3; 0.4 mm long.

FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp; 1 mm long.

DISTRIBUTION Asia-tropical: India.
