Agrostis kolymensis

HABIT Perennial; caespitose; clumped loosely. Culms erect; 40–45 cm long. Culm-internodes smooth. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 3 mm long; lacerate. Leaf-blades flat, or convolute; 0.6–2.2 mm wide.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle open; ovate; 6–16 cm long; 5 cm wide. Panicle branches scabrous.

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets elliptic; laterally compressed; 3 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret.

GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; exceeding apex of florets; firmer than fertile lemma; shiny; gaping. Lower glume lanceolate; 3 mm long; 1 length of upper glume; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate; 3 mm long; 1.2–1.5 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume apex acute.

FLORETS Fertile lemma oblong; 2–2.5 mm long; hyaline; without keel; 5 -veined. Lemma apex truncate; muticous, or awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn subapical; straight; 0.6–0.8 mm long overall. Palea present, or absent or minute; 0–1.6 mm long; hyaline.

FLOWER Anthers 3; 0.7 mm long; yellow.

DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: Soviet far east.
