Agrostis ushae
HABIT Annual; caespitose. Stolons absent. Culms 25–50 cm long. Culm-nodes glabrous. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 3.5–4 mm long; acute. Leaf-blades 7–15 cm long; 2.5–3 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous. Leaf-blade margins scabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.
Panicle contracted, or spiciform; linear; continuous, or interrupted; 9–18 cm long. Primary panicle branches appressed.
Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; laterally compressed; 3–3.5 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret.
GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; exceeding apex of florets; firmer than fertile lemma; shiny; gaping. Lower glume lanceolate; 1.5–2.5 mm long; 0.5–0.75 length of upper glume; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume primary vein scaberulous. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate; 3–3.5 mm long; 2 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Upper glume primary vein scaberulous. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume apex acuminate.
FLORETS Fertile lemma oblong; 1.5–2 mm long; chartaceous; without keel; 5 -veined. Lemma apex truncate; awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn dorsal; arising 0.3–0.4 way up back of lemma; geniculate; 3.5 mm long overall; with twisted column. Palea absent or minute.
FLOWER Lodicules 2; membranous. Anthers 3; 0.5–0.75 mm long.
FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp. Hilum linear.
DISTRIBUTION Asia-tropical: India.
