Sasaella shiobarensis

HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated; leptomorph. Culms erect; 100–200 cm long; 4–8 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow; distally glabrous. Culm-nodes glabrous. Lateral branches suffrutescent. Bud complement 1. Branch complement one; solitary; as thick as stem. Culm-sheaths persistent; glabrous. Leaf-sheaths pilose. Leaf-sheath oral hairs ciliate; spreading. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate; 17–19 cm long; 25–31 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface pubescent; hairy abaxially, or on both sides. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.

INFLORESCENCE Flowering specimens unknown.

DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: eastern Asia.
