Deyeuxia calderillensis

HABIT Perennial. Basal innovations extravaginal. Culms erect; 100–120 cm long; 2 -noded. Leaf-sheaths striately veined; scaberulous. Ligule an eciliate membrane; truncate. Leaf-blades involute; 40–50 cm long; 3–4 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scaberulous. Leaf-blade apex attenuate.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle open; elliptic, or ovate; 12–25 cm long.

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; with a barren rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; laterally compressed; 3 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus pilose. Floret callus hairs 0.33 length of lemma.

GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; reaching apex of florets, or exceeding apex of florets; firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate; 1 length of upper glume; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex obtuse. Upper glume lanceolate; 3 mm long; 1.1 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume apex obtuse.

FLORETS Fertile lemma lanceolate; 2.5–3 mm long; membranous; without keel; 3 -veined. Lemma surface scabrous. Lemma apex erose; truncate; muticous. Rhachilla extension 0.33 length of fertile floret; pilose.

FLOWER Lodicules 2. Anthers 3; 2 mm long. Stigmas 2.

FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp. Hilum punctiform. Disseminule comprising a floret.

DISTRIBUTION South America: western South America and southern South America.
