Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels 0.5–9 mm long; eglandular.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 10–26 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets linear; laterally compressed; 8–20 mm long; breaking up at maturity; rhachilla persistent; retaining paleas; fragile above; with the distal florets disarticulating separately.
GLUMES Glumes deciduous; similar; shorter than spikelet. Lower glume lanceolate; 1.5–2.2 mm long; 0.75 length of upper glume; eglandular; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate; 2.3–2.7 mm long; 0.9 length of adjacent fertile lemma; eglandular; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume apex acute.
FLORETS Fertile lemma oblong; 2.3–2.6 mm long; coriaceous; keeled; 3 -veined. Lemma midvein scabrous. Lemma lateral veins thickened. Lemma surface scaberulous; rough on veins. Lemma margins scaberulous. Lemma apex obtuse, or acute. Palea keels scabrous. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
