Mibora minima

HABIT Annual; caespitose. Culms erect, or geniculately ascending; 2–15 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 0.2–1 mm long. Leaf-blades flat, or involute; 0.5–2 cm long; 0.5 mm wide.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence composed of racemes.

Racemes 1; single; unilateral; 0.5–2 cm long. Rhachis subterete. Spikelet packing broadside to rhachis; 2 -rowed.

Spikelets appressed; solitary. Fertile spikelets sessile.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets oblong; laterally compressed; truncate; 1.8–3 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret.

GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; exceeding apex of florets; firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume oblong; 1.8–3 mm long; 1 length of upper glume; membranous; without keels; 1 -veined. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex truncate. Upper glume oblong; 1.8–3 mm long; 1.5 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; without keels; 1 -veined. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume apex truncate.

FLORETS Fertile lemma oblong; 1.2–2 mm long; hyaline; without keel; 5 -veined. Lemma surface pubescent. Lemma apex erose; truncate. Palea 1 length of lemma; 2 -veined. Palea surface pubescent; hairy on back.

FLOWER Lodicules absent. Anthers 3; 1–1.7 mm long. Stigmas pubescent.

FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp; ellipsoid. Hilum punctiform.

DISTRIBUTION Europe: northern, central, southwestern, southeastern, and eastern. Africa: north. Australasia: Australia.
