Leaf-sheaths 1–5 cm long; longer than adjacent culm internode; smooth, or scaberulous. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 1.3–2 mm long; obtuse. Leaf-blades flat, or involute; 1–5 cm long; 0.7–1.4 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface smooth, or scaberulous; rough abaxially; puberulous; hairy adaxially.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle open; lanceolate; 1.8–4.5 cm long; 1.3–3 cm wide. Primary panicle branches ascending; 1 -nate; 1.5–2.8 cm long. Panicle axis 7–11 noded.

Spikelets appressed, or ascending; solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels straight, or curved; 0.4–2 mm long; scaberulous.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets lanceolate; laterally compressed; 1.7–2.2 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus pubescent.

GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; shorter than spikelet. Lower glume lanceolate; 1.2–1.6 mm long; 0.25–0.9 length of upper glume; membranous; without keels; 1 -veined. Lower glume primary vein scabrous. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate; 1.6–1.8 mm long; 0.75–1 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; without keels; 3 -veined. Upper glume primary vein scabrous. Upper glume apex dentate; 3 -fid; truncate.

FLORETS Fertile lemma lanceolate; 1.7–2.2 mm long; membranous; pallid and mid-green; mottled with last colour; without keel; 3 -veined. Lemma surface pubescent; hairy below. Lemma hairs 0.2–0.5 mm long. Lemma apex dentate; 2 -fid; with lobes 0.2 mm long; acute; awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn subapical; flexuous, or coiled; 8–18 mm long overall. Palea lanceolate; 1.1–1.7 mm long; 2 -veined. Palea surface pubescent; hairy on back; hairy below. Palea apex acuminate.
