Poa hisauchii

HABIT Annual; caespitose; clumped loosely. Culms 30–45 cm long; 3–4 -noded. Leaf-sheaths tubular for much of their length; with 0.5–0.66 of their length closed; smooth. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 1–1.6 mm long; white; obtuse. Leaf-blades 4–14 cm long; 1.5–3 mm wide. Leaf-blade margins scaberulous. Leaf-blade apex acute.

INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.

Panicle open; linear, or oblong; 9–15 cm long; 0.8–2 cm wide. Primary panicle branches 2–4 -nate; bearing 4–10 fertile spikelets on each lower branch. Panicle branches scaberulous.

Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.

FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 2–4 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets elliptic; laterally compressed; 3.75–4 mm long; 1.8–2 mm wide; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Rhachilla internodes 0.8–1 mm long; smooth. Floret callus woolly.

GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; shorter than spikelet. Lower glume lanceolate; 1.5–1.8 mm long; 0.75 length of upper glume; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume primary vein smooth. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate; 2–2.2 mm long; 0.75 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; 1-keeled; 3 -veined. Upper glume primary vein scabrous. Upper glume apex acute.

FLORETS Fertile lemma elliptic, or ovate; elliptic in profile; 2.2–3 mm long; membranous; keeled; 3–5 -veined. Lemma midvein eciliate, or ciliolate; hairy below. Lemma surface pubescent; hairy on veins. Lemma apex acute. Palea 2–2.5 mm long. Palea keels woolly; adorned above. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.

FLOWER Lodicules 2; membranous. Anthers 3; 0.5–0.7 mm long.
