Poa sellovii
HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated. Culms erect; 30–50 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 0.5 mm long; truncate. Leaf-blades 6–30 cm long; 2–3 mm wide. Leaf-blade apex abruptly acute.
INFLORESCENCE Dioecious. Inflorescence a panicle.
Panicle open; oblong; dense; 6–10 cm long.
Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 2–3 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets oblong; laterally compressed; 4–5 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Floret callus glabrous.
GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; shorter than spikelet. Lower glume lanceolate; 0.75 length of upper glume; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate; 0.75 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume apex acute.
FLORETS Fertile lemma elliptic; 3–4 mm long; membranous; keeled; 5 -veined. Lemma apex acute. Palea 1 length of lemma. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
FLOWER Lodicules 2; membranous. Anthers 3.
FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp. Hilum punctiform.
MALE Male inflorescence similar to female. Male spikelets resembling female.
DISTRIBUTION South America: Brazil.
