Pseudosasa cantorii
HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated; leptomorph. Culms erect; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow. Lateral branches dendroid. Branch complement one, or two, or three. Culm-sheaths persistent, or tardily deciduous. Leaves cauline. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate. Leaf-blade surface glabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence composed of racemes.
Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 4 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets linear; laterally compressed; 10–50 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Rhachilla internodes 5–6 mm long.
GLUMES Glumes two; persistent; similar; shorter than spikelet.
FLORETS Fertile lemma ovate; 8 mm long; chartaceous; without keel. Lemma apex acute. Palea 1 length of lemma. Palea keels ciliolate. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
FLOWER Lodicules 3. Anthers 3. Stigmas 3.
FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp.
DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: China.
