Sasaella bitchuensis

HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated; leptomorph. Culms erect; 200–300 cm long; 6–11 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow; distally pubescent. Culm-nodes pubescent. Lateral branches suffrutescent. Bud complement 1. Branch complement one; solitary; as thick as stem. Culm-sheaths persistent; puberulous; with reflexed hairs. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Leaf-sheath oral hairs ciliate; spreading. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate, or oblong; 11–15 cm long; 23–28 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.

INFLORESCENCE Flowering specimens unknown.

DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: eastern Asia.
