HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated; leptomorph. Culms erect; 100–150 cm long; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow; distally pubescent. Culm-nodes bearded. Lateral branches suffrutescent. Bud complement 1. Branch complement one; solitary; as thick as stem. Culm-sheaths persistent; pilose; with reflexed hairs. Leaf-sheaths pubescent. Leaf-sheath oral hairs lacking. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate, or oblong; 21–25 cm long; 40–60 mm wide; coriaceous. Leaf-blade surface glabrous; hairless throughout, or except near base. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.

DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: eastern Asia.
