Sasa scytophylla

HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated; leptomorph. Culms erect; robust; 150 cm long; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow; distally glabrous. Culm-nodes swollen; pubescent. Lateral branches suffrutescent. Bud complement 1. Branch complement one; solitary; as thick as stem. Culm-sheaths persistent; pilose. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Leaf-sheath oral hairs scanty. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate, or oblong; 18–21 cm long; 35–43 mm wide; coriaceous. Leaf-blade surface glabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.

INFLORESCENCE Flowering specimens unknown.

DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: eastern Asia.
