Aulonemia nitida

HABIT Perennial; caespitose. Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms erect; 500 cm long; 25 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow. Lateral branches dendroid. Bud complement 1. Branch complement one; solitary. Leaves 5 per branch. Leaf-sheaths keeled; smooth (shiny); glabrous on surface. Leaf-sheath oral hairs setose; spreading; 12–20 mm long; pale. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 1–7.5 mm long. Collar with external ligule. Leaf-blade base broadly rounded; with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath; petiole 0.7–1 cm long. Leaf-blades lanceolate, or ovate; 25–37 cm long; 70–105 mm wide. Leaf-blade venation without cross veins. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.

DISTRIBUTION South America: northern South America.
