Bambusa barpatharica

HABIT Perennial; caespitose. Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms 1500–2000 cm long; 80–100 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow; 30–50 cm long; dark green; distally pruinose. Lateral branches dendroid. Buds or branches present on lower quarter of culm. Culm-sheaths deciduous; 12–22 cm long; 0.9 times as long as wide; glabrous; truncate at apex; auriculate; ciliate on shoulders. Culm-sheath ligule 2 mm high. Culm-sheath blade triangular; cordate; erect; acuminate. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface, or puberulous. Leaf-sheath oral hairs setose; deciduous. Leaf-sheath auricles falcate. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 0.5 mm long; erose. Collar with external ligule. Leaf-blade base symmetrical, or asymmetrical; with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath; petiole 0.4 cm long. Leaf-blades persistent, or deciduous at the ligule; lanceolate; 16–22 cm long; 20–30 mm wide; mid-green and glaucous; discolorous with last colour beneath. Leaf-blade midrib evident. Leaf-blade apex attenuate.

DISTRIBUTION Asia-tropical: India.
