Dimeria jayachandranii
HABIT Annual; caespitose. Culms geniculately ascending; slender; 20 cm long. Culm-internodes 0.3–2.4 cm long. Culm-nodes bearded. Leaf-sheaths 1.4 cm long; pilose; with tubercle-based hairs. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 1 mm long; erose. Leaf-blades lanceolate; 3.8–4.2 cm long; 2–3 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface pilose; hairy on both sides; with tubercle-based hairs. Leaf-blade margins cartilaginous; scaberulous. Leaf-blade apex acute, or acuminate.
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence composed of racemes.
Racemes 2; paired; ascending; unilateral; 2.2–3.7 cm long. Rhachis narrowly winged; angular; 1 mm wide; scaberulous on margins; glabrous on margins. Spikelet packing crowded; regular; 2 -rowed.
Spikelets appressed; solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled. Pedicels reduced to a stump; flattened.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets; 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets oblong; laterally compressed; compressed strongly; 3.5–4 mm long; 1 mm wide; falling entire. Spikelet callus pilose; base obtuse. Spikelet callus hairs 0.6 mm long.
GLUMES Glumes dissimilar; exceeding apex of florets; firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume oblong; 3 mm long; chartaceous; 1-keeled. Lower glume primary vein scaberulous. Lower glume surface puberulous. Lower glume apex acute, or acuminate. Upper glume elliptic, or oblong; 3 mm long; chartaceous; with hyaline margins; 1-keeled; winged on keel; 1 -veined. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume margins ciliate. Upper glume apex acute.
FLORETS Basal sterile florets barren; without significant palea. Lemma of lower sterile floret elliptic, or oblong; 1.1–1.3 mm long; hyaline; ciliate on margins; fringed above. Fertile lemma elliptic, or oblong; 2.5–2.8 mm long; 1 mm wide; hyaline; without keel; 1 -veined. Lemma apex dentate; 2 -fid; awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn from a sinus; geniculate; 9–10 mm long overall; with twisted column; limb puberulous. Column of lemma awn 3–3.8 mm long; puberulous. Palea oblanceolate; 1.3 mm long. Palea keels ciliate.
FLOWER Lodicules 2; cuneate; 0.6 mm long; ciliate. Anthers 2; 0.7–0.8 mm long; yellow. Stigmas 2; plumose. Styles 0.4 mm long.
FRUIT Caryopsis with adherent pericarp; ellipsoid, or oblong; 1.8–2 mm long; light brown; apiculate.
DISTRIBUTION Asia-tropical: India.
