Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 3–7 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets linear; laterally compressed; 35–60 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret. Rhachilla internodes 8–15 mm long; pilose.
GLUMES Glumes one the upper absent or obscure, or two; persistent; similar; shorter than spikelet. Lower glume lanceolate; 27–40 mm long; chartaceous; without keels. Upper glume lanceolate; 27–40 mm long; chartaceous; without keels.
FLORETS Fertile lemma lanceolate; 20–30 mm long; chartaceous; without keel. Lemma margins ciliate. Palea 15–20 mm long; 2-keeled. Palea apex dentate; 2 -fid; ciliate. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
