Phyllostachys hirtivagina
HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated; leptomorph. Culms erect; 100–250(–500) cm long; 10–18(–30) mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes semiterete; hollow; 20–25 cm long. Culm-nodes swollen. Lateral branches dendroid. Branch complement two; with 1 branch dominant. Culm-sheaths brown, or red; concolorous; hispid; hairy on margins; auriculate; setose on shoulders. Culm-sheath ligule 2–2.5 mm high. Culm-sheath blade triangular; erect. Leaves (1–)2–3(–4) per branch. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Leaf-sheath oral hairs lacking, or setose. Leaf-sheath auricles absent. Ligule a ciliolate membrane. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades lanceolate; 5–10 cm long; 10–15 mm wide; mid-green and glaucous; discolorous with last colour beneath. Leaf-blade venation with 10–12 secondary veins.
INFLORESCENCE Flowering specimens unknown.
DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: China.
