Puccinellia gabrieljanae
HABIT Perennial; caespitose; clumped loosely. Culms erect; 50–100 cm long. Leaf-sheaths open for most of their length. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 2–4.5 mm long; scaberulous on abaxial surface. Leaf-blades flat, or convolute; 1–3 mm wide; grey-green. Leaf-blade surface ribbed; grooved adaxially; scaberulous; rough abaxially.
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.
Panicle open; pyramidal; loose, or effuse; 10–25 cm long. Primary panicle branches spreading; 5–7 -nate. Panicle branches scaberulous.
Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 5–6 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets oblong; laterally compressed; 7–8 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret.
GLUMES Glumes persistent; dissimilar; shorter than spikelet. Lower glume ovate; 0.8–1 mm long; 0.66 length of upper glume; membranous; without keels; 1 -veined. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex obtuse, or acute. Upper glume ovate; 1.5–1.7 mm long; 0.75 length of adjacent fertile lemma; membranous; without keels.
FLORETS Fertile lemma oblong, or obovate; 2.3–2.7 mm long; membranous; much thinner above; without keel; 5 -veined. Lemma surface pubescent; hairy at base. Lemma apex truncate. Palea 2 -veined. Palea keels scabrous; ciliate; adorned below; with 0.33 of their length adorned. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
FLOWER Anthers 3; 1.2–1.4 mm long.
DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: Caucasus.
