Semiarundinaria albostriata
HABIT Perennial. Rhizomes elongated; leptomorph, or pachymorph. Culms erect; 100–180 cm long; 6–11 mm diam.; woody. Culm-internodes terete; hollow; 20–33 cm long; mid-green; distally pubescent. Culm-nodes flush with internodes. Lateral branches dendroid. Branch complement three, or several; with subequal branches; thinner than stem. Culm-sheaths deciduous; 0.5–0.66 length of internode; green and white; striped; pilose; hairy at the base; with tawny hairs; without auricles; glabrous on shoulders. Culm-sheath ligule 1–2 mm high; purple; ciliolate. Culm-sheath blade linear, or lanceolate; deciduous; reflexed. Leaves 3–5 per branch. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Leaf-sheath oral hairs scanty. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath. Leaf-blades linear, or lanceolate; 6–13.5 cm long; 8–21 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface pubescent; hairy abaxially.
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence comprising only a few spikelets; comprising 3–6 fertile spikelets.
Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets sessile.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 5–7 fertile florets; with diminished florets at the apex. Spikelets linear; laterally compressed; 30–70 mm long; breaking up at maturity; disarticulating below each fertile floret.
GLUMES Glumes one the lower absent or obscure, or two; persistent.
FLORETS Fertile lemma ovate; 9 mm long; chartaceous; without keel. Lemma surface puberulous; hairy above. Lemma margins ciliate. Lemma apex acuminate. Palea 0.9–1 length of lemma. Palea keels pubescent. Palea surface pubescent. Palea apex entire, or dentate; 2 -fid. Apical sterile florets resembling fertile though underdeveloped.
FLOWER Lodicules 3; membranous; ciliate. Anthers 3; purple. Stigmas 3.
DISTRIBUTION Asia-temperate: China.
