Agrostis pendryi
HABIT Annual; caespitose. Culms erect; slender; 11–46 cm long; 2–4 -noded. Culm-internodes mid-green; smooth, or scaberulous. Lateral branches lacking. Leaf-sheaths striately veined; smooth, or scaberulous; glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 0.3–2.5 mm long; truncate. Collar glabrous. Leaf-blades linear; flat; 2.5–6.3 cm long; 1.2–2.5 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.
INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence a panicle.
Panicle 4–9.5 cm long. Primary panicle branches 3–6 -nate; whorled at most nodes; 2–4.5 cm long.
Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets; without rhachilla extension. Spikelets laterally compressed; breaking up at maturity. Floret callus pilose; hairy on the margins. Floret callus hairs 0.3–0.8 mm long; 0.19–0.47 length of lemma.
GLUMES Glumes persistent; similar; exceeding apex of florets. Lower glume lanceolate, or elliptic; 2–3 mm long; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Lower glume primary vein scaberulous. Lower glume lateral veins absent. Lower glume apex acute. Upper glume lanceolate, or elliptic; 1.7–2.7 mm long; 1-keeled; 1 -veined. Upper glume primary vein scaberulous. Upper glume lateral veins absent. Upper glume apex acute.
FLORETS Fertile lemma 1.2–1.9 mm long; hyaline; 5 -veined. Lemma surface pilose; hairy all along. Lemma apex truncate; awned; 1 -awned. Principal lemma awn dorsal; arising 0.25–0.33 way up back of lemma; straight; 0.3–1.8 mm long overall. Palea 0.5–0.9 mm long; 0.35–0.58 length of lemma; membranous.
FLOWER Anthers 3; 0.5–0.8 mm long.
FRUIT Caryopsis ellipsoid; 1.3 mm long; light brown, or dark brown.
DISTRIBUTION Asia-tropical: India.
